Frequent Ask Questions

1. How long does the board and train last?

Our programs run 2 to 4 weeks, depending on your dog’s needs and progress. Each dog trains daily on obedience, leash manners, and behavior around real-life distractions. You’ll get progress updates during the stay and a full transfer lesson when your dog comes home.

2. How old does my dog need to be for the Board & Train program?

We like dogs to be at least 5 months old before starting our full Board & Train. This ensures they’re mature enough for the structure and duration of training.

If your dog is younger, we offer a Puppy Development Program designed to start them off right with confidence, socialization, crate training, leash introduction, and basic obedience.
👉 Please call us at 936-225-3338 for details and availability

3. What will my dog learn during the program?

Your dog will learn sit, down, place, heel, and recall, plus manners like waiting calmly at doors and not jumping. We also focus heavily on structure, confidence, and neutrality—helping your dog stay calm around people, dogs, and distractions

4. Can I visit my dog during training?

We don’t allow mid-program visits because it can disrupt your dog’s focus and bonding process with the trainer. However, we send photo and video updates several times each week so you can follow your dog’s progress and celebrate the wins along the way. There are some cases where we will do a mid-program check in and will allow you to come do a training session with your trainer. Please discuss this with our trainer.

5. What happens after the Board & Train is complete?

You’ll have a go-home session where we transfer all commands, structure, and handling techniques to you. You also receive three in-home sessions to help you apply the training in your real environment. Plus, you’ll get lifetime trainer support and access to our group classes, so you and your dog can continue growing together with confidence.

6. Will my dog listen to me when they come home?

Yes! The Board & Train includes a full go-home session and three in-home follow-up sessions to ensure your dog listens to you, not just the trainer. We teach you all commands, handling skills, and structure so you feel confident and in control.

7. What do I need to bring for my dog’s stay?

We provide everything your dog needs except their food. Please bring enough food for their entire stay and any medications your dog requires. We supply crates, leashes, bowls, enrichment, and training equipment.

8. Is my dog worked every day?

Yes—your dog receives structured daily training sessions, exposure work, socialization, leash work, and confidence-building drills. We balance active training with appropriate rest so your dog learns efficiently.

9. What if my dog has behavioral issues?

We work with reactivity, fear, anxiety, jumping, mouthing, leash pulling, and many behavioral problems. More serious aggression cases may require a behavior modification evaluation to ensure the Board & Train is the right fit.

10. Will my dog be safe during training?

Absolutely. Safety is our highest priority. Dogs are supervised, kenneled appropriately, and trained using proven methods based on structure, communication, and positive engagement.

11. Do dogs regress after training?

Dogs need consistency, just like kids. We give you the tools, structure, and follow-up sessions to maintain everything your dog learned. With your participation, progress remains strong.

12. Do you offer updates during the program?

Yes! You'll receive regular updates, photos, videos, and progress reports so you can follow your dog’s journey throughout training.

13. What if I have questions after my dog goes home?

You get lifetime trainer support. Text, call, or email anytime you need guidance—we’re here to help long after training is complete.

14. Do you guarantee results?

We guarantee quality training and support, but behavior depends on consistency at home. Our follow-up sessions and lifetime support help ensure long-term success.

15. Why choose Lone Star K9 Companion Training?

Because we offer proven, results-driven training, personalized support, and a relationship-based approach. Your dog isn’t just a number—we train with structure, clarity, and communication to create a calm, obedient, and reliable companion. Our lifetime support ensures you’re never alone in the process.

Testimonial

“We brought our Golden Retriever to Lone Star K9 Companion Training for the Board & Train program, and the results have been outstanding. He came in as a sweet but distracted boy who needed structure, and he’s leaving confident, obedient, and focused.

The progress he made in just a few weeks is unbelievable. His manners, leash work, obedience commands, and overall behavior are night and day. He listens, checks in, and stays engaged—something we struggled with before training.

The communication throughout the program was excellent, and it’s clear he was trained with patience, consistency, and real expertise. We couldn’t be happier with his transformation. If you’re looking for real results, Lone Star K9 Companion Training is the place to go.”

“We couldn’t be happier with our dog’s transformation after working with Lone Star K9 Companion Training. Before training, we struggled with consistency, leash manners, and getting our pup to really focus. After the Board & Train program, the difference is unbelievable.

Our dog came home more confident, better behaved, and actually excited to work with us. Walks are enjoyable again, commands make sense to him, and he listens even with distractions around.

The entire experience was professional, friendly, and incredibly effective. We were updated throughout the program, and it’s clear he was trained with patience, structure, and real expertise.

We’re so grateful for the results—absolutely a 5-star experience. Highly recommend Lone Star K9 Companion Training to anyone wanting real change.”
